Major fire in Crans-Montana (VS)

On New Year's Eve, a fire broke out in a bar in Crans-Montana (VS), claiming at least 40 lives and leaving more than hundred people injured.

The cause of the fire at the bar “Le Constellation” in Crans-Montana has not yet been fully determined. The Valais public prosecutor's office has launched a criminal investigation. According to the latest findings, arson can be ruled out. At least forty people lost their lives in the tragic accident and 119 were injured, some seriously. The injured were taken to several hospitals, including those in Sion, Visp, Lausanne (CHUV), Geneva (HUG), Fribourg, Bern and Zurich. Family members and close friends of the victims, as well as those with minor injuries and witnesses, are able to obtain help, initial information or psychological support by calling the Valais Canton helpline (0848 112 117). Victim support is also available to victims and their relatives. This service also provides immediate assistance.
